As part of the 'structured play' series of workshops and briefs, we were introduced to the book briefs—a list of six briefs from which we were to respond to two of them, in any way we liked.
Aim—
Respond to two of the proposed book briefs.
Precedents/Context—
Process/Methods—
I spent around 15 minutes per prompt and quickly sketched out potential experiments and ideas. From there it kinda just sprouted into different permutations
Reflection on Action—
To be honest, I think I simply took the briefs at face value and was not able to hack or modify it into a brief that could potentially address both my design and research agendas. As a result, the sketches and ideas that I came up with were very restricted to exploring the idea of a book and exploring the limitations and extents that a book can be.
Reflection for Action—
My reflection for this experiment is less about what I have produced, but more about how I interpret briefs. Instead of taking future 'structured play' briefs at face value, I will try to incorporate more of my research agenda to hack the brief, which will hopefully result in a brief that promotes a design outcome that is relevant to my design goals, while also a tool to explore the ideas that I am tackling during my research.
