After many showers to try to fix up the code, I finally came up with a solution. The v1 (v7 in my files), had a major issue where the engravings bug out and don’t show under the new text after partial erasure. I have since fixed that with the use of tables to store the character and positional data to reprint.

I’m super satisfied with this. I want to give it a proper cover or something with the lines “Things cannot be erased, only overwritten”. Maybe as a pre-underwritten so that the user needs to write over it or else it’s just in their face haha.
